Agnes of God occurs as play by John Pielmeier which tells the story of the novice nun who gives birth, insisting that the dead toddler was the symptom of a virgin birth. a head-shrinker & the prioress of the convent clash during a consequent investigation. the play was mass produced into a movie in 1985, starring Jane Fonda, Anne Bancroft and Meg Tilly. It was adapted by Pielmeier, & directed by Norman Jewison. It was nominated for Academy Awards for "Best Actress in a Leading Role" (Anne Bancroft), "Best Actress in a Supporting Role" (Meg Tilly) and "Best Music, Original Score".
